VATAN

Brand presentation site — A bilingual site with a panel for updating its content.

The brief

VATAN had packaging, photography and drone footage of the places the brand is named for, and nowhere to put any of it. Beer sites tend to fail in one of two ways: they become a photo gallery with no product in them, or they bolt a grey age-verification box onto the front and lose the visitor before the brand has said a word. The brief was a site where the can is always present, the country is the backdrop, and both languages are first-class.

What we did

  1. The age gate is the first impression, so we designed it — Every alcohol site has to ask, and most ask with what looks like a system dialog. This one asks in the brand serif, takes keyboard focus, and asks once.
  2. The can never leaves the screen — The hero holds the can at full height against aerial footage of the country. The palette comes off the packaging, so the site cannot drift from the label.
  3. One sentence that finishes itself three ways — The headline completes in rotation: culture, heritage, spirit. Vatan means homeland, so the line is doing the brand’s work rather than decorating it.
  4. The story, told against the product — The history section keeps the can in frame and sets the copy beside it. Given the same weight as the hero, it reads as brand rather than obligation.
  5. The numbers a drinker actually asks for — Strength, volume, calories and bitterness, as a grid in the brand’s own type. Laid out like this it reads as confidence rather than fine print.
  6. Occasions, not adjectives — A lager is bought for a moment, not a flavour note, so the moments are photographed and cut as cards. A new occasion is a new card, added by the client.
  7. A CMS the size of the site, and no larger — The client edits the moments, the story and the product details through a small admin built for exactly those. Scoping the tool to the content keeps it usable.
