A business photo shoot produces many assets when you plan it from how the material will be used, not from the camera. Before the shoot, write down where every photo and video will go: the website, the online store, Instagram, TikTok, your Google Business Profile and ads. Then make a precise shot list in the formats each place needs. That way one day of shooting gives you photos and video for months, instead of a few nice pictures that don’t fit anywhere.
Why one planned shoot beats many random ones
Many businesses in Albania do it like this: a photographer comes for the opening, someone takes phone pictures for an offer, a friend films something for Reels. A year later you have hundreds of files, in different light and different formats, and none of them suits the top of your homepage.
A single, well-thought-out shoot solves all of that at once. The light, backgrounds and style are the same, so the material looks like one brand. This ties directly into your visual identity: photos are the part of the brand customers see most often.
Your material before and after a planned shoot
Before
- Photos from different phones, in different light
- No landscape photo for the top of the website
- Products without a clean background for the online store
- Landscape videos that crop badly in Reels
- Every week the question “what do we post today?”
After
- One consistent style of light and colour
- Wide photos for the website, with room for text
- Every product on a clean background from several angles
- Vertical video shot from the start for Reels and Stories
- An organised archive for the weeks ahead
Step one: write down where each asset will be used
Before you talk to a photographer, list the places the material will appear and what each one needs:
- The website: wide landscape photos for the top of the page, with empty space where text can sit, plus photos for each service. If you don’t have a site yet, see our website service.
- The online store: every product on the same background, from several angles, with details and in-use shots. For shops, this is where most time is lost without a plan. See how we build an online store.
- Instagram and Facebook: square or vertical photos for posts, and vertical video for Reels and Stories. Meta’s Ads Guide recommends the vertical 9:16 format for Stories and Reels.
- Google Business Profile: photos of the entrance, the space, the team and the products. Google recommends adding them, and they help your business get found on the map.
- Ads: a few variants of the same idea, so they can be tested against each other.
The shot list: the heart of a business photo shoot
The shot list is the document that turns one day of shooting into many assets. For every line, write what is being shot, in which format and for what use. For a restaurant in Vlorë it might look like this:
- The empty dining room in morning light, landscape, for the top of the website.
- The terrace with the sea view, landscape and vertical.
- The five best-selling dishes, from above and from the side, for the online menu.
- The chef at work, a short vertical video for Reels.
- The team at the entrance, for the “About us” page and for Google.
- Details: glasses, bread, olive oil, for backgrounds and posts.
- A table with guests, with their consent, for ads.
For a clothing shop in Tirana the list would be different: every item on white, the same item worn, stitching and label details, and a few short clips of the model moving. The rule stays the same: from the use to the shot.
The day of the shoot
- Timing. For interiors, morning or late-afternoon light is softer. For restaurants, shoot before opening.
- Preparation. Products clean, ironed or cooked for the camera. The space tidy, with no cables or boxes in the background.
- People. If customers or staff appear, get their written consent. A photo in which someone can be identified is personal data, and Albania’s personal data protection law applies here too.
- Photo and video together. When the camera is set for a photo, film a few seconds of vertical video as well. It takes little time and gives you material for Reels.
- Check on site. Go through the list before you leave. A forgotten shot costs another day.
After the shoot: selection, names and text
A good shoot can lose its value if the files sit in a folder called “New photos”. After the shoot:
- Pick the best and edit them with the same colour style.
- Export them in the sizes each place needs. For the website, use light formats such as WebP or AVIF so pages load fast on phones.
- Give them meaningful names. Google recommends names like “terrace-restaurant-vlore.jpg” rather than “IMG00023.jpg”.
- Write alt text that describes each photo. Google uses it to understand the image, and screen readers read it to people who can’t see it.
- Organise an archive by use: website, store, social, ads.
- Schedule posts for the coming weeks so the material doesn’t get forgotten in a folder.
Text goes with the photos. A beautiful photo of a dish without its name, ingredients and price helps neither the customer, nor Google, nor the AI assistants that look for text to understand a page.
Who does this work
You can plan it yourself with this guide and work with a local photographer. If you’d rather have planning, shooting, editing and copy in one place, our photo, video and copy service handles the whole process. We then use the material directly on the website, in the store and in marketing campaigns. If you’re just moving from selling on Instagram to a proper store, read from Instagram to an online store too.
- How often should I do a photo shoot?
- Whenever something customers can see changes: new products, a new menu, a renovation, a new season. Many tourism businesses shoot before summer so the material is ready when people start searching.
- Are phone photos enough?
- For everyday posts, often yes. For the top of the website, the online store and ads, planned photos with controlled light make a visible difference.
- Can I use photos of my staff and customers?
- Yes, with their consent. Get it in writing, especially for ads, and respect it if someone later asks for a photo to be removed.
- What should I ask the photographer for at the end?
- The edited files at full resolution, versions for social media, the right to use them for your business including ads, and the date you’ll receive them.
